Egyptian singer Shireen Abd El Wahab held a press conference
after her successful concert in Carthage, Tunisia, unlike other
singers in Rotana who usually have the press conference before
their concerts to advertise for it.
Shireen was hurt by the Tunisian Journalist that criticized her
in the past when she stood on Carthage stage by having only one
song in her account. She adds that due to the remarks
journalists made she had decided not to participate in any of
the Tunisian concerts. Shireen had also turned down a number of
invitations because of the hurtful criticism.
According to the London daily Elaph, Shireen’s Tunisian fans
wanted her to come back to Tunisia and sing for them; therefore,
she didn’t want to turn them down. She proved herself to the
Tunisian journalists that she is capable of standing on Carthage
stage and singing for her fans. After her concert in Carthage,
Shireen was named as the ‘Bride of Carthage’.
About the differences between Shireen and Egyptian singer
Angham, Shireen says, “I was surprised to hear that I was badly
criticized by Angham and I was not used to such criticism from a
well respected singer who is much older than me. Angham started
singing ever since I was a little girl and I don’t want to
answer her, because it is not worth it.”
The reason behind the unexpected cancellation of her concert on
Sidi Mansor Stage in Safaqish, Tunisia is due to the accident
that happened during ‘Star Academy’, which led to 7 casualties.
The accident led the fans to be fearful of crowded stage
concerts. Since there were few tickets that were sold for the
concert, Shireen went ahead and canceled it. Shireen also adds
that the manager of the festival told her manager that they
would slaughter sheep on stage to take the jinks off.
In comparison between her previous production company and
current one, Rotana, Shireen emphasizes that Rotana won’t turn
down anything she asks for and she works freely without any
tension and is very happy with the company.
Since Shireen was staying at the same hotel that Egyptian
singer Fadel Shaker was staying in she was asked if she had meet
him yet. When Shireen was done with her concert she was very
happy with the success and as she was standing in her room’s
balcony she was surprised to see Fadel Shaker swimming in the
hotel pool; therefore, she whistle and he congratulated her.
Shireen will be saying prayers during Ramadan on a number of
satellite channels, yet she won’t be singing for any of the TV
drama series opening theme songs.
