Lebanese singer Elissa had previously decided to keep quiet and
not comment on the Syrian Musician Union’s decision to ban her
and other female singers from singing in Syria.
According to the London daily Elaph, head of the Union had
accused Elissa of not paying her taxes for her concerts in
Syria; therefore, the union decided to ban her. The Lebanese
singer was furious and had to put a stop to it.
During an interview, the Lebanese singer clears out that she
only heard of the decision from the media and that she never
received any official documents from the Syrian Musician Union
stating that she is banned.
Elissa adds that such rumors have been going on for the past two
years. The Lebanese singer did not have concerts on Syrian
grounds for the past two years; therefore, such accusation are
easily believed.
Elissa doesn’t comment on the list, which is made of female
singer who use their bodies in order to sell their songs. Yet on
the matter of not paying her taxes, Elissa states that her
manager is the one who is in charge of her concerts and he is
the one who usually pays the taxes in any country she sings in.
